Travel Smart With These Essential Items
Embarking on a new travel adventure can be an exhilarating experience. Whether you’re a seasoned globetrotter or setting off on your first trip, having the right travel essentials can make all the difference.
Though we all have our favorite items we cannot live without, here’s a list of essential items we bring for our trips, both domestic and international. Some are pretty obvious such as passport, and some are truly lifesavers! Toiletry items were left out since it’s a matter of personal preference.
Essential Items
- Passport or Identification Card
- This is definitely a no-brainer, but believe us that some do forget to bring their passport or ID card with them 😉
- Colored luggage
- Many people tend to buy black or gray luggages and those people are the ones who usually end up taking someone else’s bag or has lost a bag because some took it by mistake. Luckily, luggages now come in a variety of colors and print designs, and we highly recommend using them instead of the default black ones.
- If ever your bag is black and have not means or intentions to replace it now. Don’t fret. Tie colored ribbon to the handles or put a colored packing tape on all the sides of your luggage to make them stand out and for you to easily identify you bag.
- Antibacterial wipes
- We carry this with us even pre-COVID-19 pandemic. We observed years ago that we tend to get sick after a flight and, of course, learned that planes aren’t the cleanest place to be. We started bring antibacterial wipes and use them on the airplane seats, arm rests, monitor, table tray, window, and air vent. People do look at us like we are paranoids and have obsessive-compulsive disorder (and maybe we do!), but we don’t care because this wiping ritual helps us stay healthy and allows us to fully enjoy our trip!
- Pen
- In this age of all things digital, we rarely write things down and many do not carry a pen anymore, but please bring one during travel. There’s still some immigration and custom forms in paper that you’ll need to fill out. Having a pen with you will save you the time from borrowing one and it will be handy too when you sign receipts.
- First Aid Kit
- You don’t need a full blast first aid kit or buy one (you could, if you like!), just think of the things that you need most. Say you tend to have a headache or stomachache, so bring a medication for these with you. Do not to forget to include your prescription pills if you have any.
- Cash or foreign currency
- Just like printed forms, not all places you go accept credit cards so bring some amount of cash with you.
- Foldable duffel bag
- Most of the time, even if you travel light, you’ll go home with more items than with what you packed and brought with you, and that’s because we shop during our trips! If you no longer have space in your luggage, bring and use a foldable duffel bag as your extra carry-on or checked in baggage.
- Sunglasses
- Regardless what season you’re traveling, there will always somehow be a time where the sun is glaring brightly causing you to squint in your photos making you look like you’re not having fun in your vacation. Avoid such picture by wearing sunglasses!
- Wrinkle releaser spray
- Whether you’re a fashionista or not, a wrinkled cloth doesn’t look good on you. And no matter how careful we packed our clothes using the rolling method or packing cubes, they still end up with wrinkles. Consider bringing a travel size wrinkle releaser spray on your next trip and you’ll definitely look good and presentable.
- Power bank and charger cables
- Need we say more? Of course, we must have these mobile device charging accessories with us or else, we’ll die!
- Shawl or light jacket
- A shawl or a light jacket is great to bring with you not only to keep you warm during flight but to anywhere you go during your trip when there’s a sudden drop of temperature. For women, the shawl will also serve as a cover up when entering some holy places.
- AirFly
- This last item may not be essential to some, but for those who cannot live without their noise-cancelling headphones or earbuds, consider bringing AirFly, a tiny transmitter and wireless adapter to make your flight more enjoyable.
